Worldcon is a big event. Anticipation is a small Worldcon if we compare it to the ones happening in the USA but it’s still a major event in Montréal. All things are run by volunteers who participate in the panels and expositions line any other member of the convention. In any cases, the convention need some ways to bring order in the chaos of the events. During the years, the members have found practical and imaginative ways to do it.
1 – The voodoo board
The voodoo board is a printout of the names of all the participants to Anticipation. When a participant arrive he circle his name on it to signal his presence. When someone wish to contact somebody he put a red pin on his name and place a message in a box beside the board. To check if you have message, you have to look on your name if there is a pin. If there is one, you remove it and take your message. It’s easy, efficient and very easy to understand.
2 – The party lists
The party lists are long sheets of paper placed near the voodoo board. There is one sheet by nights. Everyone wishing to create a party need to write the name, place and time of the party. There is always many parties during the night. There is food, drinks ans sometimes games. You can go from one to another as you wish. They are free to attend but you can make a voluntary contribution if you wish. Many parties are held by representatives of town wishing to host a worldcon in the next years. They are the best to go, they your support and are ready to stuff you until you sign.
3 – Voyageur
Voyageur is an official publication of Anticipation. Its primary usage is to alert people of changes in the programming. A new sheet is printed each day on an another color to help people to detect the new voyageur issue.
