We were greeted at the panel by a lonely guy named Marc Schirmeister. Only two persons (except a guy who join us for a few minutes) attended at his panel.
Everybody missed something!
We ended up moving some chairs to form a closer circle. Marc is a graphic artist doing animations, storyboards and other drawings. He worked on projects of Ralph and with many talented peoples of the American animation industry. We talked a bit about Ralph Bakshi’s films, life and character.
He knows everyone and told us many colorful stories involving a guy simulating a cardiac arrest and running from the ambulance shortly after, people evading the cops because the sent a giant paper airplane in central park and many more. He has good memories from the animators of Fritz the cat, Bozo the clown, Walt Disney and many others we don’t remember. He also talked about Bob Clampett, Tex Avery (got thrown out from the second floor and was really cursing like Daffy Duck for a few moments after), Walt, … It was a treat. It may have turn as the worst panel of our Worldcon but turn out to be the best we had this day.
As souvenirs, we got exclusive drawings from him. Sorry you won’t see them on the web. Google his name. You’ll be surprised.
