My background in engineering was very useful in this panel. It was a bit technical but very nice. Kevin Roche was talking about a part of the works done at the Almaden IBM research center. It involve using electron spin to create smaller long term memories for computers. The first findings of the group are already in use in hard disks. I had the occasion to talk with him of the message broker he used in the computers operating the prototyping machine the built.
